Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ported on the Nokia N9
Written By Life is Gadget on Friday, 20 July 2012 | 16:04
The proof has been posted on Twitter by its developer.
Since the N9 is being slowly forgotten by Nokia, it is now up to the developers’ community to keep the thing alive. While official updates are still going on, we all know they won’t continue for long, so it’s good to see that N9 fans are taking matters into their own hands.
Hopefully, the JB port will be one of the many we will see in the near future. A company may abandon its phone, but the community won’t give it up that easy.
Thank you, John Danvic, for the tip!

Written By Unknown on Friday, 13 July 2012 | 19:06
At Yahoo!, we are giving serious attention to security, and put a big investment for the protection of our user data on all products.
We confirmed that an old archive of Yahoo! Contributor Network (formerly known as Associated Content) contains about 450 thousand user name and password Yahoo! and other companies have been leaked yesterday.
Of that amount, less than 5 percent of the published Yahoo! account password is valid. We take immediate action to fix the vulnerability that led to exposure of the data, changing passwords Yahoo! users affected, and have companies notify users that their accounts may be affected.
We apologize to all users affected by this. We encourage users to change passwords periodically, and also familiarize yourself with our safety tips in security.yahoo.com.
Hundreds of thousands Password cracked, Yahoo! apologizes
Yahoo! finally issued an official statement after a group of hackers calling itself D33Ds Co. published about 450 thousand Voices Yahoo account and password.
"We apologize to users affected by this event. We encourage users to change passwords on a regular basis as well as familiarize themselves with the tip of our security," said Yahoo! spokeswoman said in a statement, as quoted from the tech site CNET, Friday, July 13 of 2012.
Yahoo! also recognizes that the 450 thousand who cracked the password from the old archives Yahoo! Contributor Network, formerly known as Associated Content.
"From that figure, Yahoo! account with a valid password percentage is less than five percent."
Yahoo said that it immediately took steps to patch the flaws that led to the breakdown of this data, change the passwords of affected users, as well as the company warned users that their accounts may experience interference.

Your Ip Address
Written By Life is Money on Friday, 29 June 2012 | 16:35
Nowadays, the technique is similar to other sites that don't divulge IP addresses -- encourage that user to contact you via some direct means. This could be via email (many emails have the source IP address in the headers), or via an instant messaging client that allows direct connections for, say, sharing files. "MySpace trackers" and "Facebook trackers" are popular and even though some of their source sites are a good place to get a virus, the good ones are effective at capturing the IP address of visitors to the site where the code is posted. However, the profile would have to be public in order to catch it, and you'd have to wait for them to visit, and then distinguish legit friends' IPs from the one you're looking for.
It's helpful to remember that IP addresses are so trivial to forge, and they don't reveal too much information anyway, that getting one is often of little use when someone is needing a confirmed identity behind it.
Although IP addresses are virtually useless for obtaining a solid confirmation of ID (though it is possible through backdoor sites that work similar to the White Pages service) you can cover a wide variety of information which can help solidify a case against someone, if say you or someone you know was a victim of cyber bulling/stalking.
With an IP address you can not only tell who their carrier is, their connection and much more, but you can actually pinpoint where it was send from. Not a direct zoomed in address, but the town, or in the case of a city, township/neighborhood (depending on many didn't privacy variations amongst ISPs) which can be enough to support a case. For example, if you have someone hiding behind a fake account and you have reason to believe it's a particular person, you can do one of two things.
You can obtain the IP of their actual account/computer and then you can obtain the one of the "fake" account.
You can also use the locator tool to narrow it down. If you know someone lives in a particular area and the IP doesn't address match the area, then you can assume that it's most likely not the person you suspected.
While IPs don't give out as much information as a phone number, if the right tools are used and used correctly, it can be just as effective. This is assuming, of course, that the IP address hasn't been forged. In addition, many IP addresses represent proxies or gateways that act as a frontend to many different machines.
If you have a situation of abuse involving Facebook contacts, it is best to report the abuse to Facebook, or to the police.

Microsoft will Launch Tablet

This information is reinforced by the news of the All Things D obtained from other sources, who said that Microsoft really wants to deal directly with Apple.

Apple kicks Google Maps off iPhone, adds Facebook
Written By Life is Gadget on Friday, 15 June 2012 | 21:13
Google’s Maps application has resided on the iPhone since Apple launched the very first version of the phone in 2007. It’s one of the core apps on the phone, and can’t be deleted by the user.
But on Monday, Apple executives said Google Maps will be replaced by an Apple-developed app in iOS 6, the new operating system for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. It’s set to be released late this year.
Apple and Google are locked in a fight over the attention of hundreds of millions of phone users, and the advertising opportunities that come with owning a mapping application.
Smartphones from companies like Samsung and Google’s own Motorola division are the chief alternatives to the iPhone, and Apple has been suing those manufacturers in court, accusing them of ripping off the iPhone’s ground-breaking features.
Apple also said it’s building Facebook into iOS 6, snubbing the Google Plus social network. Users will be able to update their Facebook status by talking to their phones, and “like” movies and apps in Apple’s iTunes store, Apple executive Scott Forstall said.
The announcements were part of the keynote presentation that kicked off Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Apple presented new features in both phone and Mac software, plus updated laptops. But investors were mildly disappointed, as they expected more substantive news, like a hint of Apple’s ambition to get into making TVs. Analysts had speculated that Apple would at least update the software on the Apple TV, a small box that connects a TV set to iTunes for movie downloads, as a prelude to perhaps launching a fully integrated TV set.
Apple updates its iOS software every year, to coincide with the launch of a new iPhone.
Among other updates in iOS 6, Apple’s voice-command application Siri will add a host of new languages, including Spanish, Korean and Mandarin Chinese, Forstall said. “She” will also be able to launch applications and movies, and will run on iPads for the first time.
Apple also said the new version of its Mac operating system, Mountain Lion, will go on sale next month for $20. The update brings features from Apple’s phone and tablet software, like the iMessage texting application, to the Mac.
Microsoft Corp, Apple’s competitor when it comes to computer software, is also making Windows more like its phone software, with the release of Windows 8 later this year. A key difference is that Microsoft is betting that PCs will have touch screens, while Apple is betting they won’t.
Mountain Lion will also bring dictation to Macs. Users will be able to input text by talking to the computer, in any program. This is already a feature of Microsoft Corp’s competing Windows software.
On the hardware side, Apple showed off a laptop with a super-high resolution “Retina” display, setting a new standard for screen sharpness.
The new MacBook Pro will have a 15-inch screen and four times the resolution of previous models, Apple executive Phil Schiller said.
Apple already uses “Retina” displays—with individual pixels too small to be distinguished by the naked eye—in its latest iPhones and iPads.
On the phones and tablets, the Retina display is a standard feature. On the MacBook, it’s an expensive upgrade. The new MacBook will cost $2199 and up, $400 more than the non-Retina MacBook with the same-sized screen.
The new MacBook borrows features from the ultra-slim MacBook Air. It’s only slightly thicker, and like the Air, lacks a DVD drive. Instead of a spinning hard drive, it uses flash memory for storage. In the most radical departure from the last decades of PC design, it lacks an Ethernet port. Those who don’t want to use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet will have to buy an adapter that goes into the MacBook’s “Thunderbolt” port.
Apple’s other MacBooks are being updated with the latest processors from Intel Corp. Apple will still sell a more traditional 15-inch MacBook Pro, with a standard display.

Facebook Members growth slows
Written By Unknown on Wednesday, 13 June 2012 | 20:25
Facebook is a phenomenon. Starting from the business some Harvard students within the walls of the dormitory, now social networking is able to capture up to 900 million users worldwide. However, currently known growth began to slow up.
Quoted from the Wall Street Journal, Tuesday, June 12, 2012, the research firm comScore said unique visitors in April yesterday from the United States who visit this site reached 158 million, up only five percent from a year earlier.
This is the lowest growth rate since 2008 up to the United States, which is based on the April 2011 comScore data growth reached 24 percent and 89 percent in April 2010.
In the same period, the growth rate of attachment of Facebook users have also declined. At this year's users spend more than six hours to access the site each month, up 16 percent from a year ago. Is smaller than the growth in 2011 reached 23 percent and 57 percent mpada 2010.
But the span of six hours in one month is still much higher than other sites. American internet users spend more than four hours per month to access the Google-owned sites including YouTube, while to access Yahoo sites they spend 3.5 hours per month.
Unfortunately, research firm comScore, this only covers the United States alone, do not take into account other parts of the world.
The United States today is a country with the largest number of Facebook users in the world, where 71 percent of the 221 million Internet users have become members of this social networking.

After .xxx, here come .sex and .porn sites
The .xxx Web domain was a controversial lightning rod -- both religious organizations and a porn industry trade group fought against it. Now, the company behind the adult-themed domain wants to launch .sex, .porn and .adult.
ICM Registry, which brought .xxx to the world in December, wants to score three new racy suffixes in the upcoming expansion of the Internet's generic top-level domains (gTLDs) -- the ".com" part of website addresses.
The full list of applicants, and their proposed new domains, will be announced on June 13. But the process doesn't end there: Several applicants will be battling for hot domains, which are slated to roll out sometime next year.
ICM CEO Stuart Lawley doesn't want anyone to steal his inside corner in the world of online adult content. If another applicant emerges for .sex, he's prepared to slug it out.
"We've been very careful and responsible in what we did with .xxx, and we don't want someone to take over what we've done as the incumbent," Lawley says. "We're trying to produce clearly identified content that doesn't confuse consumers."
ICM took pains to develop a "best practices" model in its launch of .xxx, he says, including daily malware scanning of its 200,000 registered sites; a "no-tolerance" policy on illegal content like child pornography; and a trademark-dispute process.
Related story: Google wants to run .lol Web domain
ICM is the back-end "registry" that operates the .xxx domain. To actually buy a .xxx domain, customers go through a front-end "registrar" like GoDaddy or Moniker. Those sites pay ICM a $62 annual fee per .xxx domain and add their own markup, bringing the typical cost for an individual registering an .xxx domain to around $100 per year.
Lawley is worried that if other companies snaps up TLDs like .sex, it will erode both the appeal of .xxx and the security methods ICM is trying to make an industry standard.
So ICM wants to buy .sex, .porn and .adult. If the company is successful, it plans to "grandfather" in domains that already have a site at .xxx. For example: the owner of women.xxx would automatically have a site reserved at women.sex, women.porn, etc.
Lawley expects that "only a small fraction" of the 200,000 current .xxx registrants will actually run their sites at new TLDs like .sex.
"It's not a profit center for us -- it's more of a defensive block," Lawley says. "A lot of our customers have said they don't want these names to be created. But if they are -- and there's no guarantee they will be -- we feel we'd be a suitable custodian and do this in a responsible way."
For those .xxx sites that do want to use their .sex sites (supposing that ICM gets the gTLDs it applied for), ICM plans to let them register for a "nominal fee." The grandfathering clause works only one way, for existing .xxx sites. A new site that registers on .sex would have to register on each domain suffix separately.
But Lawley doesn't think that's a likely scenario.
"Choosing .sex over .xxx would be like buying a Hyundai and leaving the Rolls-Royce on the shelf," he proclaims.
Lawley will have to wait until reveal day, June 13, to find out if he has competition. And with popular words like "sex," it's likely he will.
If two or more applicants want the same domain, they can first try to negotiate between themselves and come to an agreement -- one that will probably involve cash. Otherwise, the name goes to auction, which could end up costing millions for the winning bidder.
Either option is likely to be expensive, but Stuart says ICM is prepared.
"It's a serious business, and we have deep pockets," he says. "We have a long-term mission of presenting adult entertainment in a responsible way. We'll do all we can to make sure no new TLD interferes with that."
LG LCD Panel Screen Beat the iPhone
As from the launch of the iPhone 4, Retina Display to be one excellent feature on Apple products. But LG this week announced its latest LCD panel, which claimed to have the highest resolution for today's mobile devices.

LG states, when compared with the panel that has a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels as found on the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III, and LG Optimus 4X HD, this panel has a 2.2 times higher pixel density.
The panel is expected to be released in the second half of this year, but LG did not provide the information which will use these innovations.
