At Yahoo!, we are giving serious attention to security, and put a big investment for the protection of our user data on all products.
We confirmed that an old archive of Yahoo! Contributor Network (formerly known as Associated Content) contains about 450 thousand user name and password Yahoo! and other companies have been leaked yesterday.
Of that amount, less than 5 percent of the published Yahoo! account password is valid. We take immediate action to fix the vulnerability that led to exposure of the data, changing passwords Yahoo! users affected, and have companies notify users that their accounts may be affected.
We apologize to all users affected by this. We encourage users to change passwords periodically, and also familiarize yourself with our safety tips in security.yahoo.com.
