Given that Qualcomm’s processors are the only ones you will
find in Windows Phone 7 and 7.5 devices, it should come as no surprise that
they will also make their way into Windows Phone 8 devices.. These Snapdragon
S4 chips will come with come with integrated LTE.
This week, Qualcomm have confirmed that they’ll be working
with manufacturers across the board to put their own Snapdragon processor line
in to Windows Phone 8 Apollo devices. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 lineup had
been completely covered by Qualcomm chips thus far, and an announcement that
they will continue to do so should be seen as a good sign for the company’s
future worth for Microsoft.

Qualcomm also announced new naming conventions for its S4
processors. Different categories, Prime, Pro, Plus, and Play, will address
different market segments. For example, S4 Prime processors will target
televisions and the S4 Pro will be geared to tablets and other “ultra-thin and
sleek computing devices.” High-end Smartphone’s will use the S4 Plus.
